Visiting Las Vegas is a dream for many vacationers who’ve wanted to take their chances at the roulette table or catch an incredible show at the Bellagio or Venetian hotels. Despite all the flashing lights and dazzling displays that are found up and down the strip, not all of Las Vegas vacations are so glamorous. The city is as renowned for its endless buffets as it is for its endless rows of fancy slot machines, so if you’re not the type who is known for his self control (and many people who visit Vegas aren’t), you may end up splurging a bit too much at the dessert section.
Fortunately, there are several easy ways to stay in shape while visiting the strip. If you’re staying at one of the many fine resort hotels in the area, there’s a good chance there’s a small gym or fitness center that can help you meet your exercise goals. Unfortunately, there’s so much else to do that many people don’t want to dedicate an hour or so to typical fitness routines on their vacations, not to mention the extra time to get there, get back, get changed, etc.
A much better option for most is some hotel room fitness. If you drove, bring along some free weights and an exercise ball. You can use the free weights for muscle strengthening and even some weighted cardio, while the exercise ball will be perfect for doing all of those abdominal exercises you need to do to keep your core tight. If you flew to Vegas, those may be a little harder to stow away in your luggage, but a jump rope will always fit in even the smallest of suitcases.
If all else fails, promise yourself that you’ll see the whole strip. Why? Because the strip is long and arduous, and all the walking you do can help offset the many calories you’re inhaling. Sure, your feet might be sore, but you’ll still get to see lots of Vegas, gamble as much as you want to, and not worry about feeling immensely guilty for eating half a cake at the Mandalay Bay buffet for dinner last night. Why spoil a vacation when you can have your cake and eat it too?
